Was your car covered in sand this morning?

If you woke up this morning to find your car covered in dust, you are not alone.

Strong winds blown in from North Africa left a reddish residue of Saharan sand on thousands of cars overnight.

Although uncommon, this isn’t the first time sand from largest desert in the world has made its way to Ireland.

Tropical winds usually carry sand northwards but are typically rained out before they make landfall here.

The below map shows the path of the sand cloud across Spain and France before it hit Ireland.
