Arklow to benefit from regional aid

Arklow is being included in a new map for the distribution of regional aid in Ireland.

Other areas of the country that will be allowed to benefit from regional investment aid include Kerry, Athy in Co Kildare and Kells in Co Meath.

The Regional Aid Map, being published today, allows the State’s industrial development agencies to pay grants, at enhanced rates, to businesses to support new investment and employment in Ireland’s most disadvantaged areas.

The announcement means that a range of businesses and companies in Arklow will now be eligible for State aid.

Larger enterprises will also be able to receive such investment for the first time following agreement at EU level.

The plan is expected to take effect from July 1.

Jobs Minister Richard Bruton said: “In practical terms, this means that when you’re trying to swing investment in a boardroom, you can offer additional support in certain parts of the country.”

Minister Bruton is due to launch the Regional Aid Map at the Dairymaster plant in Causeway at 11am.
