Aughrim Notebook – April 7

Aughrim

Active Retirement

At our next meeting on Tuesday, May 6th at 2.30pm we will have a talk on the history of Whaley Abbey.  In June we will learn ‘How to Accessorise’ which should teach us a thing or two!  On Thursday, June 19th we will be ‘Panning for Gold’ – a real fun day out.  The cost, including a light lunch, is €22.50 – payable at June meeting.  Monday Coffee Mornings continue – not on Easter Monday – why not come along for a cuppa and a chat.  New members are welcome to come and meet us.

Community Games

The evenings have got brighter so looking forward to some training in the light in the Aughrim Sports Community field. We had a great turnout last Monday night in Rathdrum rugby club for the cross country and well done to all the children who took part and to the parents for bringing them and to all our coaches and volunteers who helped out. We won a great selection of medals so congratulation to every child.
Next Monday April 14th sees our Area Athletic Finals take place in the community field. All children are welcome to take part with the winners going forward to represent our area in Shillealagh at County Wicklow level on June 14th. Registration next week is at 6.15pm with a prompt start at 6.30pm. There is an entry fee of €2 per child.

Counter Culture

Katie O’Kelly brings her Dublin Fringe Festival hit show, COUNTER CULTURE to Conary Community Hall on Saturday April 12th, at 8pm. Set in the bizarre world of fashion retail, we follow four very different shop employees on the day when zero hour contracts are brought in…and all hell breaks loose! Come take a peek behind the super friendly smiles of Macken’s Department Store, a hidden world of bunions, sequins and targets where the ‘customer is always right’.
