Curran to hold debt expo in Arklow

Independent Candidate in the Local Elections, Tom Curran is holding a public expo on dealing with debt in the Arklow Bay Hotel, on Saturday, April 26, from 10am to 4pm.

The event will be co-hosted by Stephen Donnelly TD and will feature Grant Thornton and the Irish Mortgage Holders Organisation.

The day will be split in two with two public sessions in the morning on practical and emotional aspects of dealing with debt.

These will be followed by free one–to–one consultations to help people deal with their specific problems.

“The one-to-one sessions will be private and confidential, and conducted by the experts from Grant Thornton and the Irish Mortgage Holders Organisation,” Curran said. “Anyone struggling with debt, or who knows someone that is, is welcome to attend.”

“Personal debt is a huge issue up and down the country,” Donnelly said.

“One in five mortgages are in arrears, and almost everyone is directly affected or has friends and family who are struggling with debt. There are new options – insolvency and bankruptcy, and Banks are beginning to do deals with customers. I held a similar event to this one in Bray last year and some great advice and valuable emotional support was offered to the people who came along. The most important advice was not to ignore the problem, get help from experts in the field and engage with borrowers.”

Places must be booked for the private one-to-one sessions. To book, can call Elaine on 01 2017300.
