Rathdrum B & B owner gives German couple room for the night

By: William O’Toole

Rathdrum publican and B&B owner Noel Jacob gave the victims of yesterday’s car-jacking a free room for the night to say sorry on ‘behalf’ of the people of Wicklow.

Mr Jacob, who, owns Jacobs Well with his wife Helen said that the German couple were deeply traumatised by the incident and would more than likely cut their holiday in Ireland short.

The horrific incident happened at 2.30 p.m. yesterday when the couple stopped to offer assistance at the scene of an accident at Clara Vale.

The assailant’s had crashed their northern registered Volvo into the back of a bus and they then pounced on the German tourist’s before making off in their Black Mercedes.

Gardai later recovered the car in Tullow but most of the victim’s belongings had been stolen.

Local Councillor Jimmy O’Shaughnessy said:  “Massive amounts of money is invested into bringing people to this beautiful part of the country, and now, when they get here they are subjected to this sort of treatment.”

Gardai have yet to identify those responsible and are still trying to piece together the exact circumstances behind the incident.
