Road safety concerns at Ashford school

Once again the students of Scoil na Coróine Mhuire, Ashford turned out in great numbers for National Walk to School Day on Wednesday 14th of May. The Green Schools Committee have been actively promoting traveling to school in a sustainable manner e.g. walking, car-pooling, cycling & Park & Stride. This work has been ongoing since September 2013 and has enjoyed great support from teachers, BoM, parents & the local community.

Several local councillors were present in the village on this day to see at first hand the large numbers walking to school. The school community however have concerns about some safety aspects around the school and village. Martina McDermott of the Green schools committee told Wicklownews “We would like to see a commitment at political (council) level to improve the safety of the children who walk, cycle, scoot to school”.
