Off THE BEATEN TRACK
32nd Dunlavin Festival of Arts. 2014
Residents in Dunlavin often wonder how strangers end up in the village as Dunlavin is of the beaten track. With this in mind it was decided the theme for this year’s festival will be “ OFF THE BEATEN TRACK”. The festival takes place from June 20th to June 22nd inclusive. The festival will be officially opened on Friday 20th June at 7.30pm by local award winning artist Seamus O’ Byrne. This will be followed by live music in the Market House. At 8.30pm the newly formed writers group will launch their anthology “ OFF THE BEATEN TRACK “ in Meitheal Coffee Shop, this will be followed with Ceol agus Craic with the Milltown Singers and visiting musicians.
The Maureen Dennis Memorial Set
Dance Ceili will take place at 9.30pm in the Imaal Hall all proceeds will go towards St Brigid’s Hospice, The Curragh.
Every empty premises in the town will have an exhibition going on, so the word is do not leave your house idle or you could return to an installation or an exhibition in your front room.
Local sculptor James Grace will have a one man show in Coleborn’s Garage, while husband and wife team Joan and Norman Styles will have an exhibition in the Garda Station. Cruthu the Blessington art group will be exhibiting in the Imaal hall, Monika Gawecka will have a sound installation in the squash court entitled “ A day in the life of Migrane”. Local amateur photographer Rosie O’ Connor will host an exhibition of her work in the Bookies shop, while Margot Ussher will have an exhibition in the Furniture shop (beside Rose’s Café) . The students from St Kevin’s will exhibit their end of year work in Norrie Rainey’s (Top Lawlors) while other students will exhibit work in Nellie’s video shop. The students from the national schools will exhibit in Kennedy’s Harware (Murtagh’s)
Saturday June 21st all exhibitions will be open at 12 noon.
A pony show will take place at 2pm in Dr. Kearney’s field.
At 2pm the Children’s Parade will take place.
8pm A tribute to singer Delia Murphy will take place in Camphill Community Hall, Grangebeg, tickets for this great show will be €10.
9pm Bingo in the Imaal Hall.
Sunday June 22nd all exhibitions open at 12 noon.
A Craft Fair will take place in the Imaal Hall with many local craftspeople displaying their crafts.
In the afternoon a Family Fun Day will take place on Dunlavin Green. All the usual games will be held, wheel of fortune, penalty shoot out, cake sale, pitch the horse shoe, putt the ball, the gold fish stall plus many more.
A Dog Show will take place on Cow Green at 2pm so get grooming
There will be Street Music in the afternoon.
All in all an action packed weekend is in store so please come out and enjoy the host of art,cultural and fun events for the weekend. May the sun shine on the 32nd Dunlavin Festival of Arts.
Set Dance Ceili
The Maureen Dennis Memorial Set Dance Ceili will take place in the Imaal Hall on Friday June 20th at 9.30pm. All proceeds will go towards St. Brigids Hospice, The Curragh. Music by Syl and Liz. Voluntary Donation.
Delia Murphy Tribute Night
As part of this years Arts Festival a tribute night to Delia Murphy will take place on Saturday June 21st in Camphill Community Hall, Grangebeg. Tickets €10. Enquiries to 0879693960.
The first publication by the newly formed local writers group will take place in Meitheal on Friday June 20th at 8.30pm. The title” OFF THE BEATEN TRACK” will be launched by local writer and historian Chris Lawlor This will be followed with music and craic.
Funlavin 10K/5K Run and Family Walk will take place on Sunday June 29th at 11am. The route will be around Dunlavin and will be measured and timed. All proceeds will go towards Dunlavin Playground Project which has commenced work. Register online at www.runireland.com or pick up entry form in the local shops.
The culture bus will travel to the World Flower Show in the RDS on Thursday June 19th at 10am.Local woman Ann Heatley will be competing in the event which has never taken place in Ireland. Another competitor well known to Dunlavin flower enthusiasts is Felicity Satchwell a sister of Rita Craigie. Enquiries for bus to 045 401334.

Trip to Knock
Annual trip to knock takes place on July 20th for three days. This outing is supported by the active retirement group in Baltinglass. Deposits to Baltinglass Credit Union on or before 20th April. For more details contact Bridy on 0868881850
Community Text Alert
Community text alert has been launched in the Dunlavin area. Residents can sign up for €10. Forms are in Ed’s Veg shop. People are urged to be vigilant at all times and contact the Gardai if the spot anything suspicious in the area.

Bingo takes place in the Imaal Hall every Saturday night at 9pm.Jackpot waiting to be won now stands at €1600. The funds raised by the Bingo goes towards the upkeep of the Imaal Hall and well worth supporting.
