The government has given the go ahead for the construction of the new Arklow Community College.
The decision was made on Thursday evening and a commencement notice is expected to be issued to the council early next week.
Construction on the new facility at the back of old school on the Coolgreany road will get underway in July at a cost of around 10 million.
There are currently 710 pupils attending the school.
The contract for the new building was awarded to Kildare company Sammon Group Engineering Construction Company with headquarters in Kilcock, Co.Kildare.
