Rathdrum tidy towns fundraiser

Rathdrum Tidy Towns will be holding their annual main fundraising event in the town from Thursday 7/8 to Sunday 10/8.

A weekend festival of fun for the whole family will take place over this weekend.

Rathdrum Development Association are holding their Annual Fireworks Display on the 7th August and RTT decided to coincide the two to start off the festivities.

We are also working with Avondale Camogie Club and Rathdrum Alzheimers Society who hold an annual fundraiser 5k fun run/walk and they have agreed to have it take place on the 7th to kick start the festival and to work together with the other organisations involved.

The 5k fun run/walk will take place from Avon Motors and the route is around the “Fish Pond”, registration is at 7.00 and the race starts at 7.30. We hope to see lots of runners and walkers taking part and supporting a worthy cause. Fee is €10 on the night or sponsorship cards are available from any club member. The fireworks will take place in the Parnell Memorial Park after dark and there will be live music in the Market Square before to get people in the mood.

Friday night sees our main event of the weekend taking place. This year we present “Stars in their Eyes” which is rumoured to be coming back to our TV screens so we decided to get in their first and showcase the talent of Rathdrum. This will take place in Jacobs Well at 8.00. This promises to be a great night of fun and entertainment with our MC Albert Webster looking after the acts. There will be a cash prize and trophy for the winner so all our acts will be pulling out the stops to come out on top. The admission will be €5.00. Hope to see lots of you there cheering on your favourite act.

On Saturday there will be lots of games and activities on the Market Square for all the children – keep an eye on posters and flyers for the times of these. On Saturday evening there will be a cabaret in the Corner House so come along for a bit of craic and dancing.

Sunday sees a day for the adults with lots of fun planned with Tug of War, bale races, wheelbarrow races, barpersons race and the famous Hill Crawl (not for the fainthearted). We hope to see lots of you out taking part . On the Market Square between 4.00 and 5.00 we will have local band made good and ITunes chart toppers Children of the Son doing a live session. We would also invite anyone else who would like to come along with their guitar or spoons or whatever instrument they would like to play and keep the crowd entertained.

To finish off, Sunday nights finale will be local ABBA tribute band who anyone who has seen them will know what great fun this night is going to be. This is to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the band and we hope will be a fitting end to what we hope will be an enjoyable weekend. As usual all proceeds from this fundraising will go back in to the Tidy Towns to keep the town looking its best so we hope everyone will do their best to come out and support and at the same time enjoy themselves
