Kilrush Drama Group – Autumn Production 2014
The Autumn Productions will take place a earlier than usual and will be staged in Ballyroebuck Hall from Monday the 13th to Saturday the 18th of October. Mick Byrne will be directing 3 Comedy 1 Act Plays.

The first of these is The Proposal by Anton Chekhov featuring Ellie Condren, Timmy Connaughton and Maurice Ruth. As the title suggests, this play is based on a marriage proposal, a wonderful farce, by Anton Chekhov, written in 1888-1889 and first performed in 1890 and has well stood the test of time. It is a fast-paced play of dialogue-based action and situational humour. The group will be performing The Proposal in some of the One Act Festivals in Naas, Skerries, Palmerstown and Gorey as part of the All Ireland One Act Festival Circuit where we wish them the best of luck.

The second play is Pot of Broth by W.B Yeats which will feature P.J. Arthur, Martin Hayden and Jane Kinsella. The Pot of Broth” may be the most humorous piece of Irish Drama ever composed. Not only is it good understated comedy, it also has a message (plus it makes the audience feel smart). The message is by no means new, but there is a bit of a spin on it but you will have to come to Ballyroebuck to find out what that spin is.

The 3rd Play is The Workhouse Ward by Lady Gregory and will again feature PJ Arthur and Martin Hayden (two old men who have been neighbours since youth who incessantly quarrel with each other) In this play they will be assisted by Margaret Nolan. This well written play fulfils all the criteria of good comedy and gives an insight into what life was like in a workhouse. Booking Essential: 087 – 1429325
