A former official at Wicklow Town Council has appeared before Bray District Court charged with corruption while he was a public official.
Frank O’Toole, 63, with an address in Wicklow town, was arrested shortly after 10am.
The court heard Mr O’Toole was charged with issuing a letter, dated 9 June 2006, for the purpose of corruptly obtaining an advantage for another person or persons, contrary to Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act 2001.
Mr O’Toole, who is now retired, was working as town clerk of Wicklow Town Council at the time of the alleged offence.
Sgt Donal O’Sullivan, of Bray Garda Station, gave evidence to the court of charge, arrest and caution.
He said Mr O’Toole made no reply to the charge after he was cautioned.
There was no objection to bail, and Mr O’Toole was remanded on his own bond to appear in court again on 9 October.
