Tuesday 21st October: “Birds & Wildlife of the Cape Verde Islands” – an illustrated talk by Andrew Power (BirdWatch Ireland Carlow Branch). Glenview Hotel, near the Glen of the Downs at 8pm. Andrew spent several months working on these West African islands as a research assistant to the Cape Verde Reed Warbler Project. A talk sure to be packed full of stunning images. Volunteer days at ECNR: Great work continues down at East Coast Nature Reserve with volunteer days contributing greatly to the general running and upkeep of the site. Kilcoole outing report: Our Autumn migration outing to Kilcoole on 27th Sept hit the mark as we were treated to some impressive Southbound movements of Swallow (5000+), Meadow Pipit (500+), Linnet (500+) and Goldfinch (500+) making the most of a break in the weather. We also saw a Red Kite soaring with a kettle of Buzzards and passage migrants such as Wheatear, Black-tailed Godwit and Redshank. A full species list from the day can be found here.
