Wicklow chairman calls on Council officials to explain reason behind threatening letters

The Chairman of Wicklow County Council says he’s concerned that the authority is being asked to carry out Irish Water’s ‘dirty work’.

Christopher Fox’s comments follows a written warning issued to those on the Rental Accommodation Scheme, saying failure to pay water charges would breach tenancy agreements.

Yesterday the Tanaiste Joan Burton told the Dáil she’d be surprised if a family was thrown out for falling behind on their bills.

However Councillor Fox says the situation is still unclear he wants to know why the County Council is issuing threats.
