We are delighted to have won the Wicklow County Council Environmental Award for Sustainable Tourism in Avoca alongside Avoca Tidy Towns who accepted 1st Prize for the Main Street at the awards, all the long hours of paper work planning and bringing it all together has culminated in our small 4 person committee bringing the honour to our village.

Well done to Pat Irwin, Myles Smith, Bernie Ivers & Martin McAndrew for taking an idea to fruition and to the many volunteers who helped raise funds and who got out with the hoes, clippers and every other kind of gardening implement and made it happen, not forgetting our contractor Kevin Harper who turned a jungle into a wonderful woodland walk.

Thank you also the staff at Avoca Courthouse Heritage Centre for all their help & support and to the committee of VADA who got behind the idea and supported our small committee. A big thank you to the local person who provided the funds so that the bills could be paid and we could draw down our grant and donated €2000.00 to make sure all bills were paid without your help & support, we could not have done such a wonderful job. Thanks to Marc Ruddock of the Golden Eagle Trust & to Ciollte.

Thank you all and lets all take pride in our great achievement.

We had a fabulous afternoon in Aughrim Town & Country Market on Saturday afternoon who hosted the County Wicklow Environmental Awards, with a fabulous walk around followed by lunch provided by Aughrim Tidy Towns, it was indeed made all the more pleasant to receive 1st prize for our Main Street, a great honour for Avoca Tidy Towns.

The icing on the cake for Avoca was the awarding of the Sustainable Tourism Award to the Red Kite Walk Avoca, it was indeed a proud day for Avoca. This 1st prize is in recognition of all the hard work by Sammy & his committee and our CE workers, our litter pickers & our volunteers. We would also like to thank the local business man who this week repaired our van FOC so that it would pass the NCT test and now it is a good time to remind you all that Avoca Recycling Centre are currently holding a scrap metal collection for Avoca Tidy Towns , thanks Mylie & staff. Thank you to everyone for your support over the year.
