CHRISTMAS SPIIRIT IN AVOCA

200 people attended the light up Avoca on Friday 12th December. Music craic and a visit from Santa who brought Mrs Claus they came by bus, giving Rudolf a rest for the big night  and there was great excitement when the children spotted them walking across the bridge.

Santa was very good and brought all the children Selections boxes and some of Mrs Claus cookies. Mrs Claus sampled some mulled wine whilst Santa munched the mince pies.  Mince pies & Macroons were baked &  donated by Eoin Murtagh & Jo Wallace of Joanne’s Tasty Bakes with the home made mulled wine sponsored  by Bernie Ivers of  Cherrybrook B&B.

This has been a big community effort and the money donated and lights purchased show how much community support was behind this project  the street is adorned with strings of lights as is the bridge a really wonderful festive sight.

The community really appreciate the efforts of Josephine Roche, Eddie Roche & Adam Wolohan who got the ball rolling  and the hard working volunteers & Tidy Towns CE workers   who were out in the stormy & windy weather making sure the lights were ready for the switch on.

A big thank you to everyone who donated money or sponsored lights & to Mary in Avoca Post Office who organised a fund raising raffle.

The community also thank Avoca Courthouse Heritage Centre & VADA who are sponsoring the  electricity for the lights.  Well done everyone great community spirit for a great event. Thank you to everyone who supported this.

Happy Christmas
