Residents in Arklow told they will have to pay full charges

Resident’s in Arklow have been told that they will have to pay the full price for their waste water charges.

Even though the town has no proper sewerage system they will still have to pay in full it has been reported.

The ‘Arklow Wastewater Action Group’ had argued that residents should only have to pay 50% because the town has no treatment plant.

Permission was first granted for a plant in 1994 but to-date no plant has been built and untreated water is still being pumped into the Avoca river.

Speaking Today,  Wicklow TD Stephen Donnelly said that residents were expected to pay to fund the required infrastructure, despite the fact that Exchequer  money is already ring-fenced for the project.
