Met Éireann has issued a status yellow wind warning for the country. South to southwest winds 50 to 65 km/h are expected this afternoon and evening. Gusts of up to 110 km/h are likely at times and will continue overnight, when the winds will veer westerly. Winds will be strongest in southwest, west and north-western coastal counties. There will be high Atlantic seas also. This warning is valid until 9am on Sat (10th).
There are wet and windy conditions countrywide, extra care is needed on the roads. High sided vehicles are especially vulnerable on open or exposed roads. Be particularly mindful of pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists. Wind blown debris is likely to be a problem on secondary roads in particular. Ensure to reduce your speed and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front. Only drive through water if you know it’s not too deep for your car.
