Students killed in Kildare crash named

The  four girls who died in a car accident in Kildare last night have been named Niamh Doyle (19) from Mount Leinster Park, Carlow, Aisling Middleton (19) from Coneyboro, Athy, Co Kildare, Gemma Nolan(19) from Tullow Road in Carlow, and Chermaine Carroll of Pollerton, Carlow.

The driver of the car, who remains in hospital has been named as Dayna Kearney (20) from Crosneen in Carlow town.

The girls died when the Volkswagan Polo they were passengers in collided with a van at Burtown, on the N78 in Co Kildare.

Witnesses to the collision are asked to contact gardai in Athy (059 8634210) or the Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
