GAA

Aughrim GAA Club would like to convey best wishes to Larry O’Brien who has gone to Australia. Larry will be a big loss to the senior team as he played a key role in the Intermediate success last year.

The Championship draws were held at the County Board meeting last week – we drew Annacurra in the senior championship and in the Junior C Championship we are in group 2 with Annacurra, Valleymount and Enniskerry.
Next Friday night February 20th in The Meath Arms the boxers of both Knockananna and Aughrim have their final weigh in and the relevant opponents will be paired up. Music on the night will be provided by Albert Webster. An enjoyable night is guaranteed and we would like all committee members and players to come along and support the boxers.

Our senior footballers have their first outing next Saturday in the Willie Byrne Memorial Cup which will be held in Pearses Park, Arklow. This is a tournament we won last year and set us on the road to Intermediate success.

Congratulations to Des Burton who won first place in the Recitation act in the County Scor finals recently and we wish him every success in the next round.

A date for your diary and you are been told well in advance is Sunday June 14th for our annual Run the Rock event. This is a great opportunity for all the community who are involved in the Operation Transformation to conquer the rock and support a local event.  On Saturday March 7th – the fight night, both Sean Byrne and Aughrim Cabs will provide buses from outside Lawless’ Hotel to the Arklow Bay from 6 o’clock onwards.  The Club would like to extend sympathy to the O’Brien, Byrne and Joe Murphy on the death of Agnes Byrne, Tinnakilly.
