Aughrim Business Association
Aughrim Business Association is currently making plans for this year’s St Patrick day parade and has been contacting people who have been supporting the parade since it was rejuvenated a few years ago. The organising committee are hopeful that 2015 will again see an increase in the number of Floats, Marching Groups and Associations taking part and to this end they are appealing to any one that has not been involved before to do so this year. Registration is necessary so that the committee can plan the layout and format the parade will take and participants can do this by getting their registration form from Neil in Aughrim Pharmacy 0867334751 and Ari at Van der Wel Garden Centre 0879202751 or any committee member. As in other years the Parade takes place immediately after 10.30 Mass.

Special Olympics Ireland’s Annual Collection Day – Friday 24th April
Special Olympics Ireland urgently requires volunteers in the Wicklow area to help with our charity Collection Day on Friday April 24th. Collection Day is the biggest annual fundraising event in aid of Special Olympics Ireland. The money raised on the day will be used to ensure that Special Olympics Ireland can continue to realise its promise of offering people with an intellectual disability the opportunity to participate in sport in their area. Special OIympics Ireland is looking for volunteers across the day, so if you can commit to the full day or even just an hour, please contact Emma Horgan on 085 803 1112 or emaileastern.region@
Best of luck to Patrick Phelan who lines out tonight with the Wicklow Under 21 footballers against Longford In the Leinster Championship. Date change – due to a clash of dates with some national and international athletic events and issues with television rights the date for RUN THE ROCK has been brought forward by one week to Saturday June 6th. Apologies to all those competitors who may have tailored their training regimes so that they would peak for the original date June 14th but they now have to do a bit extra as the event is now one week earlier! Well done to 4 of the Clubs younger players who were on the Avondale C.C. Schools team that won the South Leinster ‘D’ final recently. Avondale defeated Colaiste Eoin Hacketstown and the Aughrim players on the team were John Annesley, Daniel Owens, Dean Newsome and Shane McGuickian. The first outing for our Senior team was last weekend in the Willie Byrne Memorial tournament. We beat Arklow Geraldines in the first game but lost out to Barndarrig in the final. It was great to see a lot of our young players in action and the panel was – Cillian Donegan, Conor Lambert, Billy Byrne, Willie Kavanagh, Jack Byrne, Oisin Doyle, Bobby Newsome, Stephen Mann, Andy Holt, Conor Phelan, Peter Quigley, Danny O’Hare, Richard Keegan, Eoin O’Loughlin, Eoin Forsyth, Paul Lacey. Our next outing is in The Dawn Lacey final against Ballinacor in the Community Field next Saturday at 4.00. At a packed Meath Arms last Friday night the Aughrim and Knockananna boxers had their final weigh in and match ups. The Aughrim boxers chosen on the night were – Pat Bracken, Lorcan Kavanagh, Noel Browne, Billy Byrne, Danny O’Hare, John Byrne, John Browne, Liam Doyle, Megan Keegan, Catherine Keogh, Eoin O’Loughlin, Derek Kavanagh, and Liam Keenan Jnr. We would like to thank the remainder of the panel who trained equally as hard as those selected namely Chris Kavanagh, Richard Keegan, Paul Lacey Annette Keenan and Peter Quigley. A small number of tickets are still available for the fight night in the Arklow Bay Hotel on March 7th from any boxer or Committee member.
Congratulations to Liam Keenan Junior and Tara Kavanagh on their recent engagement.
The numbers 4, 9, 17 and 24 were drawn in Sports club lotto on Monday February 16th. Match three winners were: Ann Gannon, Marty Winterbotham, Ann O’Shea & Sean Byrne, Mick Brown and Mary O’Toole. The jackpot is €5700.
Where else will you find good healthy local produce from people you know and trust? Do drop in to your local market at the Pavilion on the Rednagh Rd every Saturday from 10 – 2pm. Everything from farm fresh free range eggs to handmade country butter, fresh vegetables and locally sourced meat can be found there. You will also find a host of morning fresh baked bread and goodies, jams, marmalades & chutneys. Have you tried Richard’s deliciously mouth-watering frittatas and pate yet? Yummm! And of course our very own Cafe Cois Tine where you will be spoiled for choice. However, we all are very sorry to be losing Annie from the cafe as she leaves next Saturday to pursue her new life in New Zealand shortly. Do call in to wish her bon voyage on her last day with us. We wish her all the very best down under and our loss is New Zealand’s gain. You have been an absolute stalwart Annie and Cafe Cois Tine won’t be the same without you.
Items to be included in the Aughrim notes should be emailed to email@example.com before 8 p.m. on Sundays. Do not send attachments.
