Irish Fed cup tennis team led by Wicklow captain‏

Wicklow feature strongly in Irish ladies Fed cup Tennis team, curently in competition in Tallinn Estonia. Its the Top international Tennis event for National Teams, The Davis Cup being the equivalent Men’s event.

Yvonne Doyle, Avoca resident, and long standing Irish number, is currently in attendence as Coach and non-playing Captain of the Irish Ladies. Amy Bowtell the current Irish number 1 and resident of Greystones is hot off the circuit with a 10,000 euro tournament win in the UK last weekend.
Ireland play Slovenia next , who are top seeds in their group. With The slovenian number 1 player, ranked 80 in the World, they’ll be tough to beat.
Today Feb 5th Ireland had a great victory 2-1 over Luxembourg. Following a narrow loss 2-1 to Finland 2-1 yesterday. Alot hinges on the next match.
The Irish Team is Amy Bowtell, Julie Byrne, Lauren Deegan, Rachel Dillon, and Non playing Captain Yvonne Doyle
Yvonne and her husband run The Big Hit Tennis academy coaching over 200 kids around Wicklow on a weekly basis. Theyre home base is Arklow LTC which recently was awarded a 40,000 development grant.
