Former county GAA Chairman passes away

Former county GAA Chairman Liam Cullen has died after a short illness.

The sports loving butcher died on Friday at St.Vincent’s hospital.

Friend Eugene Dooley said this morning “Liam loved Wicklow and supported all the local clubs over the years, I fondly remember him for throwing in the ball at the hurling and football county finals in Aughrim, he was a founder member of the Wicklow GAA supporters club in 2006 and was so proud of his nephew Leo who played rugby for Leinster and Ireland.”

Liam was also the proud sponsor of the GAA golf classic which takes place at Blainroe golf club every year.

Funeral arrangements are as follows

Reposing at McCrea’s Funeral Home, Dublin Road, Wicklow Town form 3.00 pm Monday with removal at 6.00 pm to St. Patrick’s Church Wicklow Town ( walking via Market Square at 6.30 pm ) arriving at 7.00 pm. Funeral Mass Tuesday morning at 10.00 am followed by interment in Rathnew cemetery.
