Friday the 22nd of May was a momentous day for the children of the Aughrim/ Annacurra Community Games, as they fielded their first ever Tag Rugby team. Under the guidance of Coach Barney Hynes, and under the watchful eye of referee Ross, they took to the pitch against Westside. It was a tantalising fixture, packed with copious skilful tries from both sides. However it was Aughrim/ Annacurra who would progress to the next round of the games to be played in Dublin in the next two weeks.
Congratulations to the players and coaches on both sides, who provided a fantastic evening’s entertainment to the excited and at times, nervous spectators on the side-line.
Thanks also to those who provided refreshments after the match, especially Avril Shannon, and of course to Fiona Shannon, our local secretary and County Wicklow Games Director who organised the match.
A big thank you to all Parents the Annacurra Field Committee for allowing us to use the pitch and to our dedicated team. We are all very appreciative of their support.
Athletic finals in Shillelagh are only 3 weeks away with one Monday left to train. So please all children make a real effort to come down and take part with their team. Next Friday the County Wicklow U-14 Quiz takes place in Dunlavin and we have a couple of teams entered from the area and we would like to wish them all the best.
