€40k Stolen from Kilcoole supermarket

Gardai are investigating a raid on a supermarket in Kilcoole where it is understood up to €40,000 in cash was stolen.

The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday morning at Centra which is located in the centre of the village.

Staff were working late to prepare the shop for the bank-holiday weekend when just before 4am a worker took a cigarette break, as he stood outside he was approached by a masked man who was pointing a gun at him.

The raider ordered him back into the shop where two other members of staff were still stacking shelves, he threatened to shoot them while demanding access to the store’s cash systems.

He managed to take cash from the store cash registers and an ATM, it is not known if the man acted alone.

Gardai are appealing to the public to come forward if they can help with their inquiries.
