A Laragh family were left shocked last night after their house was broken into while they were watching television.
Maisie Olohan and her sister Collette were watching television in their sitting room at about 10.15, when they noticed that one of their dogs was acting strangely.
They thought something was wrong when the little terrier ran towards the kitchen door barking, they got up and followed him into the kitchen to discover that they had been burgled.
Maisie’s purse had been stolen, along with items her son had bought his girlfriend for her 21st birthday.
Speaking this morning to wicklownews.net, her husband Fergal, said : “My wife and her sister were watching television in the sitting room and the kids were in bed when they noticed one of the dogs acting strange.”
“They thought there was something wrong ,then our little terrier ran towards the kitchen barking they got up and went into the kitchen and noticed that someone had robbed my sons presents for his girlfriend’s 21st and my wife’s purse.”
“I’d say only for the dogs it would have been worse as there was no cash in the purse and they could have came looking for the cash only the dog startled them,
“I’d ask people to be careful and make sure to double check everywhere is locked up and windows are closed.”
Fergal was also thankful for the efforts and support of the local community in Laragh and the Gardai in the aftermath of the robbery.
“I’d like to send a special thanks to all who helped out with searches on the night, around 16 people had gathered within 5 minutes, it shows what a great little village Laragh is.”
Among the items stolen were a a red leather purse with cards inside, a new Michael Kors navy purse in a gift bag, Michael Kors perfume in a gift bag and a Daniel Wellington rose gold watch 36 mm in gift bag.
Anyone who has information about this robbery or anyone who is offered any of the above items is asked to contact Rathdrum Garda Station on (0404) 46206 or any other garda station.
