Officials over the Ballynagran Landfill site have confirmed that the fire services and the environmental protection agency were called to deal with an incident at the dump today.
It is understood that land subsistence brought to the site overnight led to smoke coming from a capped cell on the site, which is located just off the N11 near the Beehive pub.
Fire services, officers from the EPA and officials from Wicklow County Council are currently monitoring the situation as a precautionary measure.
