50 new social housing units will be built across the county after Wicklow was allocated nearly €8 million as part of €312 million that was allocated nationwide by the government yesterday.
The money allocated will see 50 new units built in Rathdrum and Dunlavin respectively.
Rathdrum has been allocated €3,200,00 to develop 20 new units at the Councils site at the Brewery bends, while Dunlavin has been allocated €5,000,000 to build 30 new units. Planning permission has been granted for both sites.
Speaking yesterday, Cllr Pat Kennedy said : “Of this €312m, Rathdrum is to get €3.2m to develop 20 houses on the Council site on Brewery Bends,”
“These houses are badly needed in Rathdrum and I will continue to lobby for more houses to be built across the Municipal District of Arklow.” he continued.
It is understood that work will begin at both sites later in the year.
