Labour TD for Wicklow and East Carlow Anne Ferris has confirmed the approval of €9.7 million worth of public house building for the Wicklow Constituency.
Overall, today’s announcement will deliver 60 housing units in areas the areas of Rathdrum, Dunlavin. The new construction units are expected to be in place by 2017.
The move is part of a construction kick-off announced by Labour’s Environment Minister Alan Kelly which gave the green light to over 100 social housing projects throughout the country today.
“This is the first major house-building programme in Wicklow and East Carlow for many years and the first phase of the Government’s Social Housing Strategy. It is great to see it now begin to trickle down to local areas and deliver tangible results.
“Projects that have been given the green light today include: 20 homes in phase 2 of Brewery Bends in Wicklow, a further 30 homes in Dunlavin Phase 1 and in the East Carlow part of the constituency 10 homes in Rathvilly.
“The news will create construction jobs throughout Wicklow and East Carlow. We have an excellent skill-base of builders in our local areas and many of them are seeking work at the moment so this should provide a welcome boost.
“Housing is the number one priority for Labour in Government and there will be more announcements like this for the Constituency of Wicklow. I will continue working with Tánaiste Joan Burton and Alan Kelly to ensure that people in this constituency continue to benefit from both the economic investment and the provision of housing once it comes on stream.”
