Aughrim Juveniles
Well done to all the kids who took part in the Run the Rock event last week, we had some very impressive runners, and what better way to spend a morning, they had a great time. The U8 and U10 hurlers travelled to Carnew for their weekly blitz and did very well. The U8’s may not be getting the results they would like, but they will in time, as long as they keep training and turning up for the games. Next up is a football blitz in Knockananna on Saturday 20th June. The U12 footballers had a great win against Dunlavin in Dunlavin, having started the season slowly they are now getting to grips with the standard of football required at U12 and will hopefully keep progressing as the season moves on. The U12 hurlers play Tinahely in Tinahely tonight, any support would be appreciated. Preparation will be soon under way for the U8 football and hurling teams who will play in Croke Park on the 13th or 14 July, We expect to have over 30 players participating in this fantastic event. Also coming up is the Kelloggs Cul Camps for football, hurling and camogie, in the Community Field from 20 to 24 July, please book on-line if you haven’t already done so.
Derry Gaels
U16’s and Minors have been very quite of late as the lads finish out their Junior and Leaving Cert exams. It is too late to wish them luck, but we do hope the exams went well for them and wish them all the best for the future. The U14’s footballers fell miserably to Carnew in Carnew recently on a very wet and windy night. The boys played well for the first half, but what has been very common of late, is that they loose their way in the second half. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the U14 players for running the rock and raising funds for the Feile, some of the lads took on the 11k run and did themselves proud., We would also like to wish them all the best in the upcoming Feile Peil na Nog competition.
Preparation is now in full swing for the Football Feile, which is being held in the Counties of Wicklow, Wexford and Carlow this year. Hertfordshire Gaa from England are being hosted by parents from Aughrim and Annacurra, and they will be with us from Thurs 25th June to Sun 28th June. We would like to show them a good time while they are here, so we would ask both senior club members, parents and friends to help out wherever they can on and off the field. Matches kick off on Friday 26th at 4.30pm in Annacurra, where Buffers Alley of Wexford and De La Salle of Waterford will also play. Tea and sandwiches will be provided for the large crowd after the games. On Saturday at 11.00am Derry Gaels will play Hertfordshire in Aughrim, and again tea and sandwiches will be provided before both teams rush off to St Martins, Piersestown, Wexford for the quarter finals a 3.00pm kick off. Should any of the teams progress they will travel to Ballinakill on Sunday morning. Derry Gaels have organised a teenage Disco in Lawless’s on the Sat evening from 8.30 to 10.30, the only real bit of entertainment we can fit in, so support from all the local teenagers for this free event would be appreciated. If you need any further information please contact Sean O’ Shea or Declan Byrne.
