Avoca tidy towns
Its been a very busy few months for Avoca tidy towns, last week we accepted a community grant from Wicklow county council and this is to be spent providing 2 seats in or around the church car park, our ce workers & volunteers have been very busy painting, weeding sweeping planting & watering. We have had a number of very keen enthusiastic local volunteers from Arklow Gael Scoil & Arklow sea scouts who completed hours as part of their gaisce & chief scout awards, this support came just at the right time of the year and was very much appreciated.
All our plants in the public areas were donated by the governor of Shelton abbey open prison. The boxes and beds were all planted by a committee member who volunteered his time away from his work . We have received part of a grant application we made to Wicklow county council for the provision of 4 new “welcome to Avoca” signs on all the approach roads. Litter picks are taking place daily with volunteers covering when our ce workers are off at the week ends.
