A balcony collapsed at an apartment building in Berkeley, California, on Tuesday, leading to multiple deaths and injuries.
Police say the 6 people who have been killed are Irish nationals, and 7 injured.
Officer Jennifer Coats of the Berkeley Police Department says many of the injured have critical, life-threatening injuries.
The accident occurred at 12:41 a.m., about one block from the University of California campus in Berkeley. The balcony was on the fourth floor of a four-story apartment building. The building has apartments in the upper floors and retails shops at ground level.
Officials have released few details so far about those killed and injured.
Ireland’s Foreign Ministry confirmed there were Irish citizens, although it has not yet offered their names.
