ROAD SAFETY AUTHORITY’S NEW CAMPAIGN FOR PARENTS
DON’T SPEND A LIFETIME “LOOKING BACK”
Campaign aims to raise awareness of the danger of driving while distracted with children.
New study shows children are 12 times more distracting than talking on mobile phone.
Parents often take their eyes off the road while attending to children.
This can be very dangerous as drivers need to focus on what is going on outside vehicle.
Before undertaking a journey, parents should:
Talk to children. Explain how important it is for parent to focus on driving.
Ensure children are properly restrained in the appropriate child restraint.
Make sure children have a toilet break before they travel.
If getting distracted, parents should pull over and address the problem.
However, never stop on the hard shoulder of a motorway.
Keep children safe while driving.
