Katie into quarter final of European Games

RTE Sport report Katie Taylor has moved into the quarter-final of the European Games after a comfortable win over Denitsa Eliseeva of Bulgaria.

Taylor won their lightweight contest in Baku 40-36, 40-36, 40-36 and 40-36.

Eliseeva was the last fighter to beat Taylor in 2011, but was no match for her this time as the Bray boxer looked comfortable in all four rounds.

Taylor’s next opponent on Wednesday is 19-year-old Ida Lundblad from Sweden.

Speaking afterwards, Taylor said: “I’m hungrier than ever – I want to leave a great legacy and continue to win every major championships and I think it’s always great to have new challenges.

“I think I have a lot to prove to the young boxers and I am looking to stamp my authority on them. It’s great to see so many young female boxers coming through and the talent out there is outstanding.”
