Monday the 13th will be a happy day for commuters in County Wicklow as the opening of the M11 is finally upon us.
The work has been completed a number of month’s ahead of schedule.
Construction commenced on the 16.5km stretch of road in June 2013, which has created 90km of motorway/dual carriageway from Dublin to Gorey.
The new scheme will be a non-tolled Public Private Partnership and will connect the existing M11 Arklow Bypass with the existing M11 Rathnew/Ashford Bypass. This project will also include the construction of Gorey North Service Area which will provide fuel and facilities on a 24 hour basis and is scheduled to be opened by the end of 2015.
Safety checks and signage were all carried out over the last number of weeks.
20,000 vehicles currently use the road daily.
Today at 3pm the Minister of Transport Paschal Donohoe and chairman of Wicklow County Council John Ryan will officially open the new road.
The road is expected to be open to traffic at around 5pm.
