Speirview Ireland have sent us some very impressive pictures of a rath close to Shillelagh.
Sited on a windy hill in Wicklow is the imposing Rathgall Hillfort near the town of Shillelagh.
Covering 18 acres it is an important part of local history and excavations showed hill forts were constructed here as far back as 800 BC. Large quantities of artifacts were also found here, including glass beads, bronze and clay mould fragments, and potsherds.
A gold-plated copper ring was also found with deposits of burnt human bones possibly giving birth to the tradition that it was “the place where the King of Leinster was buried”.
