Dart players and supporters turned out in force on Friday night when former World Champion Andy Fordham took to the oche in Butlers Of The Gallery to raise money for Arklow Cancer Support Group.

16 players from Arklow and further afield, who had raised sponsorship, took on Fordham in a leg of ‘501’.

The large crowd in attendance were treated to some good darts all night and many took the opportunity afterwards to have their picture taken with the former Champion.

Know as ‘The Viking’, Fordham (53), was crowned Lakeside World Champion in 2004 before he took a hiatus from the game due to well documented health issues.

Fordham returned to the big stage in November when he came through a field of 200 to secure one of two BDO qualifying spots for the Grand Slam Of Darts.

Speaking after the event Fordham told wicklownews.net that he had enjoyed his time in Arklow and was looking forward to trying to qualify for next years World Championships at the Lakeside.

“My darts are starting to get back to where I want them and I will be doing my very best to get back to the Lakeside.”

In total, € 2,000 was raised for Arklow Cancer Support and Mary O’Brien of the group thanked all those who had helped raise the money for a worthy cause.
