Phone users are being warned of a scam said to originate from Ascension island, which is located in the south Atlantic between Africa and South America .
The calls which are understood to have started last Thursday are capable of clearing your credit or adding large amounts to a monthly bill.
Users are being urged not to answer or call a number with the pre-fix 00247.
On answering a call from these numbers a person can be heard shouting in distress in the background and they then hang up.
If the person who receives the call rings back, then their phone credit is used up or if they have bill phone the will be hit with a high cash amount.
If by chance you receive a call from this number, let it ring out and do not call back.
