Three people being treated for H1N1/Swine Flu at Wexford Hospital

At least three people are currently being treated at Wexford General Hospital for  swine flu the hospital has confirmed.

Three people have been confirmed as having the the H1N1 strain of the flu, which was responsible for the 2009 outbreak.

Two other people at the hospital have been tested and the results of the tests are pending the hospital say.

Dr Colm Quigley who is the Clinical Director at the hospital has said that while the current level of H1N1 cases was unusual it has bee like this from time to time in the past.

“All of the cases being treated were the result of human-t0-human transmission and there was no cause for concern.”

In 2009 it was estimated that as much as 400,000 people died as a result of the virus.
