Amid scenes of jubilation John Brady has became the first Sinn Fein TD to be elected in Wicklow for over 90 years.

The Bray man was elected after the re-distribution of Stephen Donnelly’s surplus and has taken Wicklow’s second seat.

He picked up 338 votes after the re-distribution of Donnelly’s votes and was elected with 11,489 votes

Fine Gael’s Simon Harris also exceeded the quota and the Greystones man has become the first Fine Gael TD in Wicklow to retain his seat.

Harris picked up 649 votes and hit the quota of 11,468 votes.

The count has now been suspended and will resume in the morning.
