“Some people have lost all respect for the gardai” Brian Cox

The father of a gardai who was attacked over the week-end in Dublin says some people “have lost all respect for the gardai”.

Eoin Cox from Arklow was attacked at a housing estate in Ballinteer, Co Dublin, on Sunday morning while investigating the theft of a car.

Eoin and his partner gave two man a chase on foot after they had fled from a car, the men ran to a nearby house where garda Cox was set upon by several men while trying to make an arrest.

The 35-year-old garda received a stab wound to the leg, a suspected fracture of his shoulder and concussion.

Speaking to the Irish Independent his father Brian said “If Eoin’s garda colleagues had not arrived so quickly and intervened we dread to think what injuries he would have sustained, some people have lost all respect for the gardai”.
