Armed Gardai carry out searches in Bray following murder attempt in the town

Armed Gardai in Bray carried out searches for a convicted rapist who they believe tried to kill a man in the town last week.

Members of the Regional Response Unit carried out raids for the man who they believe tried to kill a man in his early 30s as he made his way to work last Friday week.

A man, wearing a balaclava,  attempted to fire a few shots at the victim but it is understood that the gun may have jammed.

The intended victim then confronted the man and after a struggle he escaped from the scene.

Gardai carried out raids on a number of properties in Bray and the north Wicklow area as part of the investigation.

To date no arrests have been made and anyone with information is asked to contact Bray Garda Station on (01) 666 5300.
