Dunlavin notes April 18

Dunlavin 1916 Commemoration – Keep May 8th in your diary for Dunlavin’s 1916 Commemoration Day. A memorable and enjoyable day is guaranteed for all in the community and visitors. The day will begin with a parade with all the local clubs and groups, a flag raising on the Green, the unveiling of 1916 inscription on the 1798 Monument, a historical talk in the Market House, a photograph and artefacts exhibition in the Imaal Hall, a film presentation, trad music & dancing on the streets, food and craft stalls……….plenty of interesting activities for all. Dress code will be 1916 to recreate this era. A schedule of events will be available. If your club has not yet registered to participate in the parade please contact Aisling on 087-9627389 asap. Dunlavin Camera Club are taking the lead on collecting the material and organising the exhibition. If you have photographs you are willing to allow us copy please contact either Colette Mooney 085-1751627 or Aisling Grace 0879627389.

Dunlavin GAA U8/U10 Football Training – is back on Mondays at 7pm in the GAA field (weather permitting). U8/U10 HURLING training is back on Tuesdays at 6.30pm. Please check Dunlavin GAA facebook page for U12 Football updates. Membership must be paid up (€20 for the year) for kids to participate in 2016.

Pieta House Darkness into Light 5km walk takes place on May 7th at 4.15am from Weaver square Baltinglass. You can register on dil.pieta.ie Children go free. Pieta provide suicide prevention support and run many crisis centres around the country. It is a very worthy cause.

Dunlavin Teen Scene – will continue in the Parish centre every Tuesday from 7-9pm. This facility is for young people attending 1st to 6th year in secondary school and will run throughout the school terms. There will be an initial set up fee of €20 (max €30 per family) and then a weekly cost of €2 per person. So please come along for fun & chat!!

Golf Society – The following are the upcoming outings for the Dunlavin Inn Golf Society: April 16th Macreddin 11.45am. May 14th Tulfarris 2pm. June 18th Killerig 10am. July 15th Rathsallagh 2pm.. August 20th Heritage 11.45am. September 16th/17th Dromoland (Captain’s Weekend). October 15th TBC. . Membership €30 to be paid over the first 3 outings. New members very welcome.

Arts Festival – This year’s festival takes place on June 17th, 18th and 19th 2016. The next meeting takes place on Saturday April 2nd at 12 noon in Dunlavin Inn. Anyone who wishes to get involved is welcome to come alone.

Funlavin is Back – June 26th will see the Funlavin Run back in Dunlavin. This year it will be started by Dave Brady from Rathcoole who holds the record for running more marathons than anyone else in Ireland. He has run over 550. Please do spread the word. Of course we will be making donations again to local charities.

Clothes Collection – supporting Friends of Calcutta will take place on Thursday, April 21st at the Parish Centre. Collection at 5pm. All items of clothing, footwear, bedsheets, curtains in any condition most welcome. Your tremendous support last year funded a wonderful sporting and cultural weekend for 1200 children and to view a short DVD of this joyous event please visit ‘rajiv 16’ on Youtube. Silverstream Nursing Home Notice – Due to the high volume of applicants for employment at Dunlavin Nursing Home we are unable to reply to each applicant individually. Silverstreams HR department will endeavour to reply to individuals in the next 6 to 8 weeks.

Stratford N.S. – are holding a 5km/10km Fun Run & 5km Family Walk on Sunday, April 24th. Further details are available on the Church notice board.

West Wicklow Cancer Support Group: – Thursday 28th April at 7:30pm Coimin Centre, Blessington. Speaker: Louise Rossney, BSc., MSc (Nutritional Medicine) Louise will give nutrition tips on managing emotional issues and a brief overview on how nutrition can help combat problems arising from cancer and cancer treatments.  This will be a relaxed presentation, all welcome and feel free to bring a friend.

Stratford/Grangecon Community Employment – has vacancies for the following positions: General Maintenance (located in Dunlavin/Donard). To qualify for the above positions, you must be in receipt of a Social Welfare payment for a least one year and be over 25 years of age. Training will be provided.
