Dunlavin notes week April 25

Dunlavin 1916 Commemoration – May 8th will be Dunlavin’s 1916 Commemoration Day. A memorable and enjoyable day is guaranteed for all in the community and visitors. The day will begin with a parade with all the local clubs and groups, a flag raising on the Green, the unveiling of 1916 inscription on the 1798 Monument, a historical talk in the Market House, a photographic and artefacts exhibition in the Imaal Hall, a film presentation, trad music & dancing on the streets, food and craft stalls……….plenty of interesting activities for all. Dunlavin GAA U8/U10 Football Training is back on Mondays at 7pm in the GAA field (weather permitting). U8/U10 HURLING training is back on Tuesdays at 6.30pm. U6 Nursery for both Hurling & Football will be on Mondays at 7pm. Please check Dunlavin GAA facebook page for U12 Football updates. Set Dance Ceili – The Annual Maureen Dennis Memorial set Dance Ceili takes place on June 17th in the Imaal Hall, Dunlavin. Dancing 9.20pm till late. Music by Syl and Liz. Refreshments. All proceeds to St Brigid’s Hospice, The Curragh.


Sympathy – Sympathy is extended to the family of Mary Farrell, Kennycourt who passed away last week. Mary who fought a long battle with cancer is mourned by her husband Tom, sons Noel, Robert, John and Peter, daughters Susan and Julie, brothers Jimmy and Robbie, sisters Lil and Kit and many relatives and friends. Mary’s funeral   took place in Gormanstown on Saturday April 16th 2016. May   Mary rest in peace.


Golf Society – The results of the recent outing to Macreddin were 1st Anthony Deering, 2nd P J Harte, Front 9 Davy Corrigan , Back 9 Jim Carty. Next outing Tulfarris May 14th, Tee Off 2pm. New Members welcome. Match play draw will take place on the day.


Geraldine Deay Memorial Crookstown 5k Loop – The Crookstown 5k Loop will take place on Friday June 17th 2016. Registration at 6pm in the Crookstown Business Park , race commences at 7pm. The event will be followed by a BBQ. All proceeds will go to Breast Cancer Research.


Pieta House Darkness into Light 5km walk takes place on May 7th at 4.15am from Weaver square Baltinglass. You can register on dil.pieta.ie Children go free. Pieta provide suicide prevention support and run many crisis centres around the country. It is a very worthy cause.


Arts Festival – This year’s festival takes place on June 17th, 18th and 19th 2016. The next meeting takes place on Saturday April 2nd at 12 noon in Dunlavin Inn. Anyone who wishes to get involved is welcome to come alone.


Funlavin is Back – June 26th will see the Funlavin Run back in Dunlavin. This year it will be started by Dave Brady from Rathcoole who holds the record for running more marathons than anyone else in Ireland. He has run over 550. Please do spread the word. Of course we will be making donations again to local charities.


West Wicklow Cancer Support Group: – Thursday 28th April at 7:30pm Coimin Centre, Blessington. Speaker: Louise Rossney, BSc., MSc (Nutritional Medicine) Louise will give nutrition tips on managing emotional issues and a brief overview on how nutrition can help combat problems arising from cancer and cancer treatments.  This will be a relaxed presentation, all welcome and feel free to bring a friend.
