Dunlavin notes week May 2

Dunlavin 1916 Commemoration – May 8th will be Dunlavin’s 1916 Commemoration Day and it promises to be a memorable occasion for all within our community and for our visitors. The day will begin with a parade at 2pm from Station rd with all the local clubs and groups, followed by ceremony on the Green, a historical talk in the Market House at 4pm, and in between all that a photographic and artefacts exhibition in the Imaal Hall from 10am, Dunlavin Cinema House will be open for one day, the recreation of a Fair Day on the Green, trad music, buskers & dancing on the streets, food and craft stalls……….plenty of interesting activities for all. Come in the Spirit & Style of 1916! We invite everyone to arrive in 1916 dress code. Prizes for Best Dressed Lady, Best Dressed Man and Best Dressed Child on May 8th.

Dunlavin GAA U8/U10 Football Training – is back on Mondays at 7pm in the GAA field (weather permitting). U8/U10 HURLING training is back on Tuesdays at 6.30pm. U6 Nursery for both Hurling & Football is on Mondays at 7pm. Please check Dunlavin GAA facebook page for U12 Football updates. Membership must be paid up (€20 for the year) for kids to participate in 2016.

Set Dance Ceili – The Annual Maureen Dennis Memorial set Dance Ceili takes place on June 17th in the Imaal Hall, Dunlavin. Dancing 9.20pm till late. Music by Syl and Liz. Refreshments. All proceeds to St Brigid’s Hospice, The Curragh.

Sympathy – is extended to the family and friends of William (Bill) Hanlon who died suddenly last week, Bill was buried in Ballymore Eustace. May he Rest in Peace.

Dunlavin’s Text Alert – AGM will be held on Thursday, May 19th at 7pm in Scoil Niocláis Naofa. All are welcome.

Dunlavin Tidy Towns Committee – would like to invite all local groups and in particular the residents of Station road to take part in a clean- up of the area ahead of the 2016 celebrations. Volunteers can assemble at the monument at 6pm on Thursday 5th May where pickers, bags and gloves will be available. Our annual fundraiser is ongoing at the moment, please support by buying a line from our promoters who will be out and about with cards over the next few weeks.

Dunlavin Residents Association – would like to thank the community in supporting their recent Electrical Recycling Day. It was a great success and it’s hoped it will take place on an annual basis.

 

Geraldine Deay Memorial Crookstown 5k Loop – The Crookstown 5k Loop will take place on Friday June 17th 2016. Registration at 6pm in the Crookstown Business Park , race commences at 7pm. The event will be followed by a BBQ. All proceeds will go to Breast Cancer Research.

 

Pieta House Darkness into Light 5km walk takes place on May 7th at 4.15am from Weaver square Baltinglass. You can register on dil.pieta.ie Children go free. Pieta provide suicide prevention support and run many crisis centres around the country. It is a very worthy cause.

 

Arts Festival – This year’s festival takes place on June 17th, 18th and 19th 2016.

 

The Big C Choir & Friends – will hold an evening raising funds for Cancer research & the Friends of St. Brigid’s Hospice in St. Brigid’s Garrison Church, Curragh Camp on Friday, 6th May at 8pm. Tickets €15. Further details on the Church notice board.

Anam Cara – is holding its monthly parent evening on Monday, May 9th from 7:30- 9:00pm in Dominic’s Community Centre, Tallaght. All Anam Cara Services are available free of charge to bereaved parents.

 

The Irish Cancer Society’s – is currently seeking volunteer drivers from Co. Wicklow to drive local patients to and from their chemotherapy treatments in Dublin hospitals. Driver expenses are paid. If you’re interested, please telephone Rebecca on 01 2316642 or email transport@irishcancer.ie
