Fans of Mixed Martial Arts have been left stunned this evening after Conor McGregor posted a cryptic tweet on his official account hinting at his retirement.
The tweet which read ‘I have decided to retire young. Thanks for the cheese. Catch ya’s later’ immediately sent fans into meltdown, with many feeling it was just a hoax as he has done this kind of stuff before.

Thanks for the cheese.

However, in another twist, McGregor’s coach, John Kavanagh, also posted a tweet which read ‘Well was fun while it lasted.’

Many still believe that it is still some kind of joke as the Dubliner is currently training for UFC 200, where he’s expected to meet Nate Diaz in the main event.
It would seem strange that he is going to call time on his career straight away, especially given the fact that he is set to earn another seven- or eight-figure payday for his rematch with Diaz.
However, sources in America are now claiming that the tweet is not a hoax and an announcement is expected soon.
It will be interesting to see how this story plays out.
