Man who died in Gorey accident named

The man who died in a work place accident near Gorey has been named as Peter “The Mallet” Byrne from Ballycanew.

The 45-year-old father of one died at at Casey Concrete,  it is understood that Mr. Byrne was operating an excavator when then accident took place.

Sources have said that the young dad was digging at the base of the quarry when thousands of tons of loose material fell on top of his machine.

Funeral arrangements

Late of Thd Brickyard Hill, Courtown, Gorey. Beloved son of Mary and the late Pat, partner of Kathy, adored father of Ellie, brother of Geraldine, Catriona, Christopher, and Breda. Sadly missed by his extended family, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

May he rest in peace.

Reposing at Murphy’s Funeral Home, The Avenue, Gorey, on Sunday 3rd April from 4pm until 10pm. Removal from his parents’ home at The Brickyard Hill, Courtown, on Monday, after prayers at 2pm to Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Riverchapel, for Funeral Mass at 3pm, followed by burial in Ardamine Cemetery.
