St. Kevin’s Community College are proud to announce that Auguste Zaveckyte came 8th in the final round of 100 students in the All National AILO Linguistics Olympiad competition which was held on 15th March in Trinity College, Dublin.

The All Ireland Linguistics Olympiad (AILO) is a national contest in which students must develop their own strategies for solving complex problems. These problems are based on fascinating languages from around the globe.

AILO introduces students to the application of logic and linguistics (i.e. the study of human language) to problems of language understanding and translation. The goal is to develop students’ problem-solving skills and to inspire them to consider the fascinating range of careers at the intersection of computing, language and linguistics.

In the past, Auguste received 11 As and 1B in all her subjects at higher level in the Junior Cert 2015. She is currently in 5th year and is hoping to study medicine. We would like to congratulate Auguste on achieving great success.

Saint Kevin’s Community College were delighted to welcome Spanish students for their first ever exchange programme with Spain.

The 16 Spanish students arrived on Monday 4th of April to a warm welcome and friendly Irish hospitality. The students are from Colegio San Gabriel de La Aguilera in Aranda de Duero, Burgos. They spent a week of sightseeing followed by a morning of school activities.

St. Kevin’s CC Spanish language exchange programme is aimed at 2nd and 3rd year students and is a wonderful opportunity for students to experience Spanish language & culture. The programme gives students the chance to practice their language skills and cultural immersion with a host family.

It is through living with the host family and sharing the experiences of everyday Spanish life that the Irish students develop and enhance their Spanish language skills.

Irish students from St. Kevin’s were very positive about their experience in Burgos in November last where they gained a valuable insight into the social habits and life in Spain. Many friendships have been formed we have no doubt that our exchange will go from strength to strength.
