Mass of the Angels

On Saturday evening May 14th, in Church of the Sacred Heart Aughrim, the Vigil Mass at 8pm will be celebrated as “Mass of the Angels”.  The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for all the families in the locality who have lost a baby due to miscarriage, around the time of birth or a child who died young.  The “Avondale Voices” Choir will be present to enhance the ceremony.  Any parents or siblings who are bereaved and would like to participate in the ceremony, completing readings, prayers of the faithful, offertory gifts, please contact 087-6107687 if you wish to assist.

Community Games

How talented is our local area?  Gold medals for Juliette in the U 12 Solo singing, for Ciara the current all Ireland champion in U 16 solo dance, for Rory and  Sarah in U 16 group dance and silver medals for Lorrianne in U 16 solo dance and Isabella in U 16 recitation. Well done to you all and now all our gold medal winners go on to represent Co Wicklow at the National Community Games Festival in Athlone in August. Congratulations to both our teams who took part in the U 14 quiz and one of our teams are the County Wicklow champions and will go on to represent the county at the National Community Games Festival in Athlone in August. Well done Sadhbh. Isabella, Juliette and David.

Run The Rock

Registration for ‘Run The Rock 11K Challenge’(4th year) takes place on Saturday  June 4th at 11.00am and is now open for registration on .  This fundraising event is organised by Aughrim GAA Club committee and has become a very popular local event.  This trail run starts and finishes at the Brooklodge Hotel and is open to both runners and walkers.  The first 3K is a formidable climb to the top of Cushbawn mountain. From here on its downhill to lap the Sean Linehan Walk and then back up to the Brooklodge  Hotel,  finish line for well earned refreshments.  There is also a shorter 3.5K loop to cater for families and kids.  Entry: Individual €20 online, Team of four €60 online, Individual On the day €25.   Family 3.5k €10  For any further information contact any member of Aughrim GAA Club committee.

An Alzheimers Tea Morning

An Alzheimers Tea Morning will take place at10.00am on Thursday  May 5th in Aughrim Sports Complex.  Funds raised will go directly to services which help people affected by Dementia, such as support groups, day care and respite centres.  Please support if you can.

Active Retirement

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 3rd at 10.30am when we will be having a Flower Arranging Demonstration given by one of our own members. Details of our upcoming visits to Delta Sensory Gardens and Duckett’s Grove in Carlow on Tuesday,  May 24th and the GPO on Tuesday, 28th will be announced.  Have you booked for these trips?    If you have not already done so, please bring along your updated Application Form to the May meeting as we need to ensure our records are accurate.

Juvenile Notes

The U12 footballers played Tinahely in the U12 League last Friday night and came away with a very impressive win on a score of 7-16 to 0-01. Keep up the good work lads, but don’t get carried away, there is a long season ahead. The U8 & U10 players had no blitz last weekend but are looking forward to playing Annacurra in Annacurra on Saturday next at 11am. Training continues every Tuesday night for U6, U8 and U10 football and hurling. 6.30-7.15 is football training and 7.15 to 8.00 is hurling training and new players are always welcome. Some Juvenile membership remains outstanding and should be paid to any of the coaches as soon as possible

New to You Charity Shop

Helping towards the upkeep of the Pavilion, Fishing Park and village of Aughrim.   We are appealing for donations of saleable goods – bric a Brac, clothing, small pieces of furniture toys etc.  If you have something that you have no further use for but feel it would suit someone else please donate.  Our opening hours are 10 – 1pm, 2pm – 4pm Tuesday to Friday and 10am to 2pm Saturday.


The numbers: 4, 14, 22 and 28 were drawn in the Sports club lotto on Monday April 25th. Match three winners were: Liz O’Byrne, Rory O’Brien and Barry Lott   The jackpot is €8250.


Join your friends for a warm welcome and a cuppa at the Aughrim Town & Country Market every Saturday from 10am – 2pm in the Pavilion, Rednagh Road.  You will find a great selection of local produce including fresh meat and vegetables, farm fresh eggs, freshly baked bread and cakes and jams and chutneys.  A wide selection of warm Aran knits to keep you warm this winter and some lovely hand-crafted goods are also on offer.
