Carnew notes week May 23

U12 Hurling Division 1
 Carnew 3-7                      Bray Emmets 2-3
Carnew had a comfortable victory over well fancied Bray Emmets when they met on Monday 16th May at the Centre of Excellence in Ballinakill. Bray Emmets were first on the scoreboard and were leading by two goals and a point after 15 minutes. However, when man of the match ‘Dan the Man’ Redmond got into gear and found the back of the net in the eighteenth minute, Carnew got a new lease of life and started to hurl with conviction.

Ben Gilligan, better known as ‘The Paocher’ at full forward got in another goal before half time. Dan Redmond shot over some excellent frees and left the scoreboard level at 2-3 all at half time.

Carnew came out in the second half in the belief that the game was theirs for the taking. When Sean Kenny shot to the back of the net early in the second half Carnew never looked back. Dan Redmond kept the scoreboard ticking over again with his great frees. Jack Deegan in goal, Billy Molloy and Dan Murphy in the backline along with Jack Keogh and Jack Brownrigg kept Bray Emmets scoreless in the second half. Dan Redmond, Richard Greene and Shane Byrne were effective in the middle of the field while up front Cillian Doyle, the Kenny brothers Sean and Brian and Ben Gilligan kept up the pressure to hold out for a seven point victory. This was a great result for the lads and a very strong performance from a team who were missing Maurice Sheil and Will Molloy through injury.

Carnew Emmets Camogie Club

It’s been a busy few weeks for our various teams.

The U12s headed to the GAA National Games Development Centre in Abbotstown for the Caman to Leinster 2016 and lined out against Crumlin and Clontarf (Dublin), Nurney (Kildare) and St Annes (Louth). They have played Knockananna and Bray Emmets in the League so far. The U12s train every second Wednesday night, with matches on Friday nights.

The U14 League threw up a superb match against Donard-Glen, followed by matches against Knockananna and Kiltegan. The girls have found their form and are competing with great heart in every match. Many of the U14s played with the Scoil Aodan Naofa camogie team at the Cumann na mBunscoil Caman Give Camogie a Try day in Ballinakill last week. U14 training is on Saturdays with matches on Monday nights.

The U16s were pipped at the post in the League by Knockananna and Aughrim with the match against Kilcoole outstanding. U16 training is on Sunday mornings with matches on Wednesday nights.

Arklow failed to field against our Intermediates in early May and the team won their next match against Annacurra. The match against Eire Og Greystones, deferred on the weekend of the Neon Run/Walk, is to be played this coming Thursday night. Adult camogie training is on Thursday nights with matches on Sunday mornings.
