A man has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the murder of his mother at her home in Bray.
Bijan Afshar, who lived in the area with his father, was arrested shortly after her body was found in June 2014.
Lynn Cassidy, a 50-year-old mother to four sons, was a resident of the Deepdales estate on Southern Cross Road in Bray. She was separated and had been living there for over two years.
Her remains were discovered in the early hours of June 27th 2014, but it s believed she could have been killed the day before. Her eldest son Bijan Afshar, who was 21 at the time, was arrested shortly after her body was found and appeared in court the following day charged with her murder.
This morning, he pleaded not guilty to the charge by reason of insanity.
A jury has been sworn in to hear his trial which is due to begin hearing evidence this afternoon and is likely to take up to two days.
